Mr. THANKAPPAN.K.G.

Joined the State Planning Board Kerala in the cadre of Research Assistant and retired as Joint Director with 25 years of experience in Planning and Monitoring of Government Schemes in Kerala, India.

A total period of 5 years in my life was spent in a rural area in Alappuzha district, as an unemployed person. One year after graduation and four years after post graduation.

Worked in different District Planning Offices like Alappuzha, Wayanad ,Kannur, Kollam Kottayam and Ernakulam as Assistant Director, Deputy Director,and District Planning Officer .

Served on deputation as Regional Manager SC/ST Corporation.

On deputation also served in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts as Chairman and Convener of the Committee for the welfare of Head Load workers.

Served as the Secretary of District Development Council ,and as the Nodel officer of the District Consultative Committee and member of District Level Bankers Committee.

In the environmental side I got opportunity to attend the Environmenal Committee constituted for the revival of Pookot Lake under the Chairmanship of District Collector and Swami Ashcharya Acharya (Belgium Swami,the deciple of Sree Nataraja Guru) in Wayanad..

Got the opportunity to assist Sri Moorkoth Ramunni IAS,in his studies about the development of tribals in Wayanad.

Actively participated in the establishment of AMRID (Ambedkar Memmorial Rural Institute of Development) which stands for training and developments of Tribal youth in Wayanad.

Associated with the establishment of FREED (Forum for Rural Environment and Economic Development)an NGO started for the Protection and Development of Sacred Groves in Alappuzha and for the empowerment of women. Also initiated Jala Arati for the protection and respecting water for sustaining life on Earth .Also worked for constituting Coconut Development Societies in Alappuzha district.

Associated with the establishment of Sustira, Kannur district an NGO stands for sustainable development through watershed development in Western Ghats Kerala. Also associated with the Community Development Societies (CBCS),a UNICEF sponsored programme ,and the preparation of the first Action Plan for the Community Development Society of Alappuzha Muncipality.

Associated with the preparation of papers on different sectors of development in Alappuzha district for the UNICEF sponsored seminar viz Focus District On Women Development Alappuzha .Actively involved in the Ambedkar Grama Programme and Integrated Habitat Development Programme for the develpment of SC/STs. Also actively involved in Self Reliant Panchayat and Janakeeyasutranam (Peoples Planning/Decentralised planning) Total literacy programme and Akshaya project in different districts of Kerala as District Planning Officer.

After retirement from government service, teaching a profound system of Yoga as Assistant Professor. Also practising Yoga for the last 20 years.
